Technology Park - UPDATE
The Little Rock Research and Technology Park Authority had its first meeting on Wednesday, November 9. The seven-member authority is a partnership of the city, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce, all of which have representatives sitting on the board.
Their first item of business was to set a Public Briefing and monthly schedule and elected officers.
On Dec. 14, the board will hold a Public Briefing to lay out its purpose and plans. The location for the Public Briefing meetings will be announced later.

The board chose the second Wednesday of each month for its regular meeting date.
The board elected Dr. Mary Good as its chairman, Eddie Drilling as vice chairman, Jay Chesshir as secretary and Dickson Flake as treasurer. Good is the former dean of UALR's Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology. Drilling is president of the Arkansas division of AT&T. Chesshir is chief executive officer of the chamber of commerce. Flake is co-founder of Colliers International Arkansas.
The two universities, along with the chamber and the city, formed the research park authority last year after prompting the state to pass legislation in 2007 allowing such partnerships. In addition to the sales-tax revenue, the city and two university partners have agreed to each provide $125,000 over three years as seed money.
When built, the research park will provide space for startup companies that will attempt to turn research.

CareLink Honors Residents
CareLink honored Calvin and Pat Mitchell and Cleo Tucker, among other volunteers, at the Arkansas Aging Conference for their service in the Meals on Wheels program in the Broadmoor area. The Mitchells and Mr. Tucker have been involved in the program since it started in the area in 1996. Cooperating organizations include the Southwest Shepherd's Center, and St. Luke United and Western Hills Methodist Churches.
The group estimates that Broadmoor volunteers have delivered approximately 32,400 meals!

UALR Healthy Harvest Summit
UALR's Growing Healthy Communities Healthy Harvest Summit is scheduled for Thursday, December 8 in UALR DSC rooms B & C from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Arkansas Surgeon General Dr. Joe Thompson will be the keynote speaker.
The summit will highlight Healthy People 2020, all GHC efforts and its impact that it has had on university district residents, in addition to expressing appreciation to all who have taken part in making Growing Healthy Communities a success for the University District.

Senior Justice Workshop Nov. 22
The University District Partnership and the UALR Criminal Justice Department Senior Justice Center are co-sponsoring a Senior Justice Workshop on Tuesday, November 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 at the Bailey Alumni and Friends Center.
David Montague, Ph.D., UALR Associate Professor and Director of the Senior Justice Center will conduct the workshop and provide information on how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and what seniors can do if they become victims of crime.
The workshop is intended for seniors and their families and caretakers who reside in the University District. The workshop is open to all with an interest in Senior Justice and public safety in the University District.
Please consider attending and also pass this information along to persons whom you think will be interested in attending.
