that go with it. Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) is celebrating
National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September to encourage everyone
to get a library card.
More than 40 businesses in Pulaski County will offer discounts or
special deals throughout the month to new and existing library card
holders. Specific discounts and timeframes can be confirmed with each
retailer and are shown at each branch and www.cals.org.

Copper Thieves Active: Be Alert
Everyone needs to be alert for copper thieves going through the
neighborhood. At least two have been reported with their pipes
stripped over the past 10 days in Broadmoor - there may be more.
One was a vacant rental and the other a vacant house for sale. The
police confirm that this is an organized effort.
Please watch out for your neighbors. Call 911 if you see anything suspicious.

Board meets September 6

Adult Leisure Center Update
Work has begin to replace Little Rock's Adult Leisure Center at
University Park, almost three years after the center was destroyed in
an October 2009 fire. The facility, which will be renamed The Centre
at University Park, is the city's only community center focused
specifically on senior and adult recreation.
Haggling between the city and its insurance company over what
materials could be reused in the new center delayed construction.
The insurance matter was settled last summer for about $2 million.
With the 1 percentage point increase in the sales tax approved last
September, the city was able to add an additional $980,000 to rebuild
the 15,000-squarefoot building.
After site work and demolition costs, the city will spend $2.7 million
on the center, which is scheduled to open in 2013, said Mark Webre,
assistant parks and recreation director.
Arecent event showcased some improvements planned for the facility,
including moving it closer to 12th Street for greater visibility.
Parking will be moved behind the building, and new outdoor plazas with
tables and other amenities will be added.
Mayor Mark Stodola said the center will incorporate space for
activities most popular among the city's senior citizens.

The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance seeks an organized, driven individual to lead the No Kid Hungry Campaign in Arkansas. The No Kid Hungry Campaign Director will work with the Executive Director to fulfill the goals outlined in the multi-year plan to end childhood hunger.
Other responsibilities include managing No Kid Hungry staff employed by the Alliance, serving as a liaison between the Alliance and Share Our Strength, working in conjunction with local non-profits and policy makers, and coordinating with many groups to increase awareness about, get feedback on, and implement the key strategies around the No Kid Hungry Campaign in Arkansas. Bachelor's degree required. Management experience preferred.
