Report Truancy

Truancy is a major concern for the LRSD with ramifications that could be costly and far-reaching. Truant students may engage in delinquent and/or criminal activity, and are at higher risk of being drawn into behavior involving drugs, alcohol, or violence. It is not just a school district problem, but a community problem. Help keep students safe, protected and in the classroom.

Violation of School-Hour Curfew states; hours between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, in accordance with Arkansas law, the minor is not to be absence from his or her place of schooling. 

Report any and all suspected truancy to theLRSD Truancy Hotline at 477-SKIP (7547)

Or call 911 and report suspected truancy.

Several Upcoming Meetings You Should Attend

September 9th - Little Rock Citizens Academy. These meetings extend through November 4. Registration was to end today; contact David Sink at 569-8548 to inquire about late registration.

September 18:  Committee on Committees. Meets at the clubhouse at 7:00pm.

Septembers 23: Little Rock School District Town Hall Meetings. These meetings extend on into 2014. Check www.lrsd.org for dates and locations.

September 24th:  UD Neighborhood Leaders Association meeting. Location: UALR University District Building (in front of Big Lots/Harbour Freight. Meets at 6:30 with dinner provided. RSVP at 562-6877 if you wish to have dinner provided.

October 1: National Night Out. Location - University District Building and parking lot.

National Night Out

National Night Out

National Night Out is August 6, 2013 and Little Rock Night Out is in October. National Night Out, a  community building campaign, is designed to: (1) Heighten crime prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

 

Although the City of Little Rock will have Night Out in October, some neighborhoods may choose to have their (NNO) on evening of August 6, 2013. Their decision is based on what’s conducive to their respective neighborhood. Citizens will celebrate National Night Out with a variety of special citywide and neighborhood events. There will be block parties, cookouts, flashlight walks, festivals, visits from local officials and law enforcement, safety fairs and youth events.

 

Last year Little Rock had 17 NNO locations, involving 38 Neighborhood groups and attracting 3,811 Citizens.

September Yard of the Month

The Yard of the Month for September is found at 47 Broadmoor Drive.  This is a well cared for yard where the owner, who has lived in Broadmoor for 10 years, does all the work.  As you drive by to see this yard you will also notice the yards surrounding #47 are also well cared for and deserve recognition. 

It has been a great experience driving around each month finding a yard to be selected.  Each month, more than one yard could have been recognized thus making this job a difficult one in selecting only one.  I have been encouraged, though, to see so many people taking pride in how their yard looks.  Broadmoor is a GREAT place to live!

September ends the Yard of the Month for this year.  Be sure to begin making plans for the Christmas lighting contest that will be held in December.  Until then..... keep on taking care of those yards!

Yard of the Month

The August Yard of the Month is found at 2205 Ridge Park Drive.

If you don't know where Ridge Park is, you will find it located off of Glenmere Drive above Boyle Park Road

Take a drive down to Ridge Park and check out this yard with a water fountain.  Once again, the back yard of this house is another "hidden treasure". 

Broadmoor is blessed with many yards where the resident takes pride in the way their yard looks.  It has been a thrill to drive around and see the many yards.  It makes selecting the YOM difficult at times.  I hope everyone will continue to take pride in their yards.  Maybe, then, we will see more neighbors taking pride in how their yard looks.  As we approach the celebration of Broadmoor's 60th birthday lets work together in getting Broadmoor looking the best it has ever looked!

September will be the last award for the "Yard of the Month" until December when there is is holiday light contest.

History Committee August 12

The History Committee will meet on Monday, August 12 at 7:00pm in the clubhouse. 

This committee is reviewing/collecting old documents that can be used to convey the story of Broadmoor!  The purpose is to preserves our history and  to attract positive interest in the neighborhood. The committee members would appreciate any old stories, photos, artifacts, etc. that can be used for that purpose. 

All are welcome to attend and assist in this project.
