Citizens’ 311 Sweep of the University District

You are invited to be a part of the citizens’ 311 sweep of the University District.

What is a Citizens’ 311 Sweep?

The City of Little Rock recently launched a new “311 App” for reporting 311 issues quickly and easily. A citizen’s 311 sweep is when citizen drive areas of their neighborhood and report via their smart phone 311 issues.

You are invited to meet on SATURDAY, APRIL 26 at 9 am at the University District office and join your neighbors for a 311 sweep of the University District.

If you are you tired of seeing cars-in-yards, unsafe-houses, trash-piles-on-the-curb, uncut-grass and graffiti this is your chance to help improve your neighborhood.

Neighbors will be matched up as teams to sweep the neighborhoods.  One smart phone owner/ operator and one driver will be assigned a specific area of the University District.  Maps will be provided to insure full coverage of the entire University District.  Teams will cruise an assigned area and report via the 311 App any violations you think need to be reported.  It’s that simple!

If you want a clean neighborhood, here is your opportunity to make it happen!

Parked car damaged

 Parked car damaged

Please let the community know that someone driving a 1990's white cadillac ran into my parked car this morning, in front of my house. They drove off before anyone could get the license plate number, but one of my neighbors saw the car before it drove off. 

The right front portion of the cadillac must be damaged because the right rear of my car is damaged. The collision occurred at a high enough speed to move my parked car about 6 feet forward in front of my driveway.

Gardening Training and Free Raised-Bed Garden

UD offers garden training and free raised-bed garden at March 18 event.

The project provides free raised bed gardens (8 by 4) to the first 30 University District residents who register for a garden training session. Persons who have received a raised bed garden in previous years aren't eligible to receive another garden, but may attend the garden training session.

The garden training is provided by Beth Phelps, Pulaski County Extension Agent. 

We are continuing the program this year and we have scheduled the garden training for the evening of Tuesday, March 18. Sign in will begin at 6Pm and the training session will begin at 6:30 at the University District building. The training lasts about an hour.

Presently, there are two agenda items.

1. Finalize plans for garden training and distribution/installation of raised bed gardens for Growing Healthy Communities 2014. (The March 4 garden training session was cancelled because of inclement weather. New date is March 18. We'll put out notice today).

2. Discuss spring planting and what gardeners should be doing in March and early April.

Hoops and Hash

This is a reminder of the AARP-sponsored "Hoops and Hash" at UALR this Saturday evening. Dinner and tickets are free for the first 30 who sign up.

Subsidy Available for First-Time Homebuyers

University District Development Corporation is offering eligible first-time homeowners up to a $20,000 subsidy to be used towards down payment, closing costs, and/or home purchase price reduction.

To qualify for the subsidy, prospective buyers must have an annual  income of no more than 80 percent of the area’s median income.

Maximum  gross annual income to qualify:
• $33,700 for one person
• $38,500 for two people
• $43,300 for family of three
• $48,100 for family of four

A first-time  homebuyer has not financed a home within  the last three years prior to the date of closing on a home in the UDDC program.
