Improving water quality in Broadmoor Lake

If you walk the park near the clubhouse, you may have noticed some small white flags and higher grass in the ditch that leads to Broadmoor Lake.

For years, water has torn at the foundation of the rock bridge by the clubhouse. With this year's heavy rains, we have had even more erosion in the area.

In addition to erosion, swift runoff carries pollutants--oil, chemicals, and just plain dirt--into Broadmoor Lake.

In an effort to slow the water down, we have flagged the area and are letting the grass get just a bit higher in the little swale that leads to the chanellized part of the ditch. We will cut the vegetation once or twice a year, and we will not let woody shrubs grow in it.

We hope to establish some native wildflowers in the area, too.

Enjoy Broadmoor Lake

Have you visited Broadmoor Lake? We have a beautiful, 10-acre lake in in the heart of Broadmoor Neighborhood.

Broadmoor residents can walk or bike the lake path. 

The lake is also stocked with fish. (Of course, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission regulations apply, and you must have a fishing license.)

So, come out and enjoy Broadmoor Lake!

Broadmoor history mentioned in Democrat-Gazette

Those 4x6-foot concrete slabs in the back yard of every house in Broadmoor are relics from the very first air conditioned subdivision in Arkansas (and some folks say the United States). When our houses were built, they had natural gas air conditioners that used redwood towers to cool water. The towers sat on the slabs.

On page 3B of the Thursday, May 28, 2009, Democrat-Gazette, Broadmoor is mentioned as being the first air conditioned develoment in the state. Little Rock recently hired a consultant to study the potential for historic designations within the city. The consultant mentioned Broadmoor as having the potential to be designated a historic area.

Broadmoor resident publishes book on Little Rock trails

Broadmoor resident Johnnie Chamberlin has just published a book on hiking, biking, and boating trails in Little Rock. He includes several routes in Boyle Park, which borders Broadmoor on the west.
