Neighborhoods Candidate Forum

City officials just released the schedule of broadcasts on the community cable channel for Coalition of Greater LR Neighborhoods Candidate Forum.

The candidates were asked a series of questions on the positions they would take on important local issues.

Free Rides to Voting Locations

Mr. Ellis Houston, owner of Yellow Cab Company, invites all seniors (60 and over) who need a ride to go vote, to please call the Yellow Cab Company at 501-222-2222.  They will come pick you up and either wait for you, or if there is a long line they will return when you call to take you home.  This service is completely free of charge.  This service is for Early Voting, as well as Election Day, November 6th.
 
When you call, just tell them "I need a ride to go vote", you will need to give them your address and they will take you to the closest Early Voting location to your home, or your regular voting location on November 6th.

Technology Park Hearings

The Little Rock Technology Park Authority Board will have 2 public hearings on the four sites identified. The Meetings are to hear from the consultant, site owners and the public.

Tech Park Facilitated Discussion will be led by former U.S. Rep. Vic Snyder, now working for Blue Cross, will "facilitate" the discussion. He has agreed to do on the condition that he strictly be a moderator, not an expert on the project or sites and with the understanding that technical questions would be answered by others.

WILLIAM P. “BILL” LOONEY of Little Rock, was mercifully taken by his Savior Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Bill was born on February 10, 1924 in Plumerville, Arkansas to Benjamin Franklin and Alma Palmer Looney. Bill graduated from Plumerville High School in 1942. He volunteered for the Navy and was stationed in Hawaii, where he served in aircraft maintenance and repair. He was interested in flying and took flying lessons in college, earning his pilot license to fly small planes.

After the war he attended Arkansas Tech on the GI bill and graduated in January 1950. He started work for the Arkansas Highway Department in January 1950 and worked there for 37 years, beginning in the planning and research department. He then became the Highway Public Affairs Officer for Director Henry Gray. Bill traveled all over the state and was the Highway Department representative to the Arkansas Legislature. He loved to talk to people and never met a stranger.

Bill joined Oak Forest United Methodist Church in 1955 where he served in many ways. He served as president of the administrative board and as a Sunday school teacher for jr. high youth. He served as chair of the evangelism committee for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ben Jr. and A.W. Looney, sister Pauline Canady, and his daughter Becky Looney Newman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Charlene Bryant Looney; son, Randy and wife Rita Looney; granddaughter Becca and husband Carter Sample; grandson Kyle Looney; sister Joyce McReynolds; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2012, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, (501) 224-8300. Funeral services will be held at 10: a.m., Friday, October 19, 2012 at Oak Forest United Methodist Church, with Reverend Russ Breshears officiating. Interment will be at Plumerville Cemetery, Plumerville, Ark. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church, 2415 Fair Park Blvd., Little Rock, Arkansas 72204. Candidate Forum at City Hall

City officials have again granted a request to host a televised Candidate Forum for city director candidates this election season. The Coalition of Greater Little Rock members will conduct the forum this Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10:00am in the Board Room at City Hall, 500 W. Markham St.

The Coalition needs some Volunteers to serve at this event to help read questions to the candidates and as timekeepers – if you can volunteer, please contact Kathy Wells at katwells@earthlink.net as soon as possible. This is very easy work and educational. You will have meet the people who wish to serve the citizens of Little Rock.

The recorded Forum will be re-broadcast a number of times on city cable Channel 11 in advance of the Nov. 6 election.

The Coalition thanks City Mgr. Bruce Moore for his support for the democratic process at City Hall, and his quick reply granting this Coalition request.

The Wellness Fair is THIS SATURDAY!

The University District Wellness Fair scheduled for Saturday, October
13, from 9 to 2 PM at the UALR Field House.

The UALR Field House is at the Southern Entrance to the Donaghey Student Center.

The Wellness Fair is open and free for University District residents.

The Wellness Fair consist of basic body measurements (weight, height,
blood-pressure, heart-rate, body-fat, etc.) in order to help
participants understand their own health status. All information is
