Pool Work Day May 4

Please join Pat and Cal Mitchell, Pool Managers, at the pool on Saturday, May 4th at 9:00am for a pool work day to prepare for opening the pool! Except for the life guards the pool functions on volunteer support. Pat and Cal volunteer their time for the ENTIRE summer to keep the pool open and running safely; please volunteer a few hours of your time on May 4th to prepare the pool for a summer of fun!

Arkansas Audubon Society Halberg Ecology Camp

It's that time of year again when we are actively recruiting 11- and 12-year old boys and girls for the two June sessions of the Arkansas Audubon Society Halberg Ecology Camp. The 1st session will be Sunday June 9 until Friday June 14. The 2nd session will begin on Sunday June 16 and end Friday June 21.

This is the 34th year for this incredible, hands-on Ecology Camp.

Each session we are looking for 50 new students who are interested in hands-on natural sciences. Some of those 100 total spots have already been filled. If you know of any 11- or 12-year old youth who are interested in the natural sciences—ornithology, herpetology, mammalogy, aquatic biology, entomology, geology and botany—please make sure they and their families are made aware of this terrific educational opportunity.

The staff consists of 14 instructors who teach in pairs (for example, two ornithology instructors teaching a class of 8-10 students), two co-directors to oversee and coordinate camp activities, an activities director, a full-time registered nurse, and an excellent kitchen staff that serves meals that are both tasty and nutritious. The instructors include high school science teachers, graduate students, college instructors, and working professionals.

We rent the entire Camp Clearfork facilities near Crystal Springs off Highway 270 from the U.S. Forest Service. Camp Clearfork is closed to outsiders during our rental period. Our staff is very security conscious.

Free Shredding Friday

What: Free collection/shredding and recycling of documents (and some electronics)

Date: Friday, April 19

Time: 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: parking lot at the corner of Maryland & MLK Drive (across from King Elem. at the entrance sign to Arkansas Children's Hospital)

Shred-it truck will be present to accept paper products and shred/dispose on site for FREE.

eSCO truck will accept computers, printers, cell phones, microwaves, tv's, dvd's, vcr's, stereos and most any device that plugs in or operates from battery.

(Cannot accept washing machines or anything that contains Freon or other liquids such as refrigerators or air conditioners)

Dave Hammond at 3 Broadmoor reported the theft of a chained up yellow scooter and a Hoverround vehicle that was in his carport. He did make a police report about this theft.

Everyone also needs to be aware of an increase in teenager activity around the neighborhood and park recently. Please be alert and do not hesitate to call 911 if any suspicious activity is seen. Remember that you can call for assistance and remain anonymous.

Please call, even if you are not 100% certain something illegal is happening. Better have the police check it out than to miss an opportunity to keep order.

Broadmoor History Committee

Please join us at the Broadmoor Clubhouse on Saturday, April 20th at 9:30 for coffee & donuts!

We will be starting our dual projects of rewriting our bylaws/bill of assurance and also creating a workable and usable Archive for the History of the Broadmoor Neighborhood.

This is a massive undertaking and many hands make the work lighter! Coffee & Donuts make it lighter also!

Join us for the full two hours or just a part of that time.

Help us sort, bundle and file all the information that has been gathered over the past 64 years! Yep, it has been a long time since the original bill of assurances were issued!

The filing cabinets, books, minutes, plat maps, etc need to be tidied up and organized.

We have been made aware the CALS – Central Arkansas Library System will also archive our information once we get organized. More to come on that later.

The “History Club” will meet the second Saturday of each month at 9:30am until 11:30am. So, join us any month you are available and tell your neighbors. Bring with you ANY printed info from Broadmoor past, any photos, any old directories – anything you think might be of value for the archives.

From Det. Brett Stewart of the NW Property Crimes Division: If you see a silver/gray Chrysler 300 with a partial license plate of 036 with unknown letters (covered with a Landers plate cover), please call 911. The driver is wanted for possibly being involved in burglaries in west Little Rock.

From Fair Park: A person was rear-ended at the light at Fair Park and I-630 this morning. The person who hit him fled the scene in a silver car (perhaps foreign made?) with license #322SHE. Insurance might cover, but this is pretty low (not to mention illegal and dangerous), to flee before exchanging information. Call 911 if you see this one, too!
