Safety Baby Shower on May 18

If you or someone you know is expecting and lives in the Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood (most of 72204), please sign up for the Safety Baby Shower this Saturday:

There is still time to register!!! Arkansas has one of the highest child injury rates in the nation. Infants are at a particularly high risk for injury due to their small size, lack of strength, and biological development. Deaths due to unintentional injuries can often occur in the home and in motor vehicle crashes, and many are unpreventable. In an effort to address these issues, Arkansas Home Visiting Network and the Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood will host a Safety Baby Shower at the Children’s Library, 4800 W. 10th on May 18th at 10:30 a.m. This event is geared towards new or expectant mothers who live within the Promise Neighborhood (zip codes 72202, 72204, or 72206).

This is an educational session, in a festive, shower-themed atmosphere, complete with refreshments, decorations, games, and prizes. Education is provided on home safety, safe sleep, shaken baby syndrome, and child passenger safety. Shower gifts include various home safety products, instructional dvds on infant crying, and each participant will receive a car seat and meet with a Child Passenger Safety Technician near her delivery date. This will ensure that parents are properly trained on installing their child’s car seat correctly.

Arkansas Home Visiting is a network of free programs available to help parents and their children. These programs focus on working with a family in their own home on a regular schedule to address basic needs, resources, referrals, parenting skills, and providing information about how your child is developing. Home visiting is an added benefit to a child and the family. A new baby can be a welcome addition and a stressful time for any family. Every parent struggles with questions and doubts about what the correct things to do. The goal of every parent is to create a better life with unlimited opportunities for their child.
Home Visiting opens the door to a brighter future!

Currently, Arkansas Home Visiting Network is recruiting 60 families to enroll in home visiting services who live within the Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood. Families who are prenatal or have children not yet enrolled in kindergarten could be eligible for FREE services. If you know of any currently prenatal families that would be interested in attending this event or interested in home visiting services please feel free to contact Nichetra MaGee at 501-682-9528 or mageen@archildrens.org.
