If you are interested in growing a healthier community, attend a free garden training and informational seminar.

The first 30 residents to sign up who have not received a garden will receive a free raised bed garden.

If you would like to bring a soil sample from your lawn or landscape beds, label samples with your name, address, phone number, and what you are growing. Place between a pint and quart of dry soil in a waterproof container (plastic bag or jar). You will receive a report with a liming and fertilization recommendation in a couple of weeks.

CLERK SENDS OUT NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION ACT NOTICES

The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA) requires county clerks to attempt to contact all voters who are currently registered, but who did not vote in any state, local or federal election during the last election cycle. Pulaski Circuit/County Clerk Larry Crane has announced that approximately 41,000 of the more than 218,000 registered voters in Pulaski County will be sent confirmation notices starting March 29.

The confirmation notice is a two-sided card with a detachable postcard for reply. To reply, a voter needs only to sign the card and drop it in the mail. .

Voters who receive one of these cards, can sign and return the detachable postcard, or simply call our Voter Registration hotline at 340-VOTE.

The important thing is to respond!

Voters who receive a card but don't respond run the risk of having their voter registration become inactive or of eventually having their voter registration cancelled under federal law."

Steps to Prevent Burglary

Officer Michelle Howard with the Little Rock Police Department will do
a free home security evaluation of your home. Please email her at
mhoward@littlerock.org to set up an appointment, or leave a message at
371-4634.

The LRPD will also check on your home while you are on vacation, call
371-4829. The patrol officer on each shift in will come to your house
and check on it.

Most residential burglaries occur during the day when the house is
obviously unoccupied. Having a car in the carport, leaving a radio on,
having interior lights on timers, are all things you can do to
discourage burglars looking for opportunities.

You should take some common sense steps to reduce your vulnerability
to burglary. The single most effective deterrent in our neighborhood
is making sure entries to your home are visible to your neighbors, and
that your neighbors know you and know when someone is in your yard who
should not be there.

Ward 6 Street and Drainage Improvement Meeting April 6

Broadmoor needs to turn out for the Ward 6 Street and Drainage Improvements meeting. It will be held April 6 at 6 PM at the Northwest Patrol Division Headquarters, 10001 Kanis Road.

Public input at these meetings will influence where our new city sales tax money is spent.

Annual Meeting Report

Our annual meeting, the 59th since Broadmoor was founded in 1954, was informative and enjoyable.

City Director Joan Adcock made it clear that we need a definite presence at the upcoming infrastructure meetings.

The LRPD updated us on their good work keeping us safe.

Ron Copeland, University District Partnership Director, went over the exciting work we are doing in the University District.

We also honored Bill Looney, who passed away recently. Mr. Looney served on the neighborhood board, was president of the Association, and helped pioneer the halfway house committee. Always an optimist, we will greatly miss Mr. Looney.

Little Rock Bicycling Coordinator

Message from Ron Copeland, University District Partnership Director:

Little Rock has hired a part time pedestrian/bicycle coordinator. His name is Jeremy Lewno. He chairs the Little Rock Bicycle Friendly Community Committee which meets at 11:30 on the second Wednesday of each month.

All are welcome to attend the BFCC meetings. I know that some of you are very interested in bicycling and developing bicycle routes, etc.

Please let me know if you participate. I'm working with a start up group to pursue Bicycle Friendly University status for UALR.
