Volunteer Rain Gauge Network

WANTED!

VOLUNTEERS OF ALL AGES

TO HELP SCIENTISTS STUDY STORMS

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) needs volunteers with the enthusiasm for watching and reporting weather conditions and a desire to learn more about how weather can affect and impact lives.

Across the nation, in 38 states, thousands of volunteers are currently contributing to the CoCoRaHS network. On April 1, 2009, the State of Arkansas will join other states in enhancing the rain gage network maintained by the National Weather Service and others.

The objective of CoCoRaHS is to have at least one rain gage for every 36 square miles in rural areas, with a higher density for urban areas. This means about 1,500 gages in Arkansas or 20 rain gages per county. For urban areas, the goal is 1 gage for every square mile.

For more information on CoCoRaHS, go to the website www.cocorahs.org or contact Michael J. Borengasser, CoCoRaHS Coordinator for Arkansas, at 501-682-3969 or michael.borengasser@arkansas.gov

Remember: April 1, 2009 is the kickoff for CoCoRaHS in Arkansas
