AARP Focus on University District Seniors

AARP Arkansas has chosen the University District for a Community Presence project in Arkansas. The Community Presence project involves the State AARP office in assessing and responding to the needs of seniors within a local community. The Community Presence project is focused on improving walkability/fitness, reducing isolation by encouraging social connections, and improving the public safety and security of seniors.

The AARP Team has begun meeting regularly with a representative group of seniors who reside in the University District to shape what we're calling the University District Seniors Network. The AARP/UDP advisory team will begin soon sending regular communications to seniors to gain a broader base of input in the formation of the UD Seniors Network. Persons interested in participating on the advisory group can contact the University District office to join the group.

In the meantime, the advisory group wants to encourage seniors to participate in activities and events within the University District and on the UALR Campus.

The first event being sponsored by AARP Arkansas is a reception and attendance at the opera, "Into the Woods" on April 22. Please read the invitation below for details.

Registration is required because seating is limited. AARP membership is not required.

If you want to participate, Please call 1-877-926-8300 to RSVP for Reception and Opera by April 16, 2012.

Reservations will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.
