New trees planted in park

Besides living in a quiet area within walking distance of Arkansas's second largest university and 10 minutes from everything you would ever need, one of the great benefits of living in Broadmoor is getting to use the park. In the center of our neighborhood, we have 10 acres of parkland, playgrounds, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a basketball court, and, of course, the clubhouse. The park continues around the 10-acre lake, following a shoreline path.

In the ice big ice storm of December 2000 many trees were damaged in our park. Since then, we have had several diseased and dead trees removed. On the suggestion of Johnnie Chamberlin, we decided to plant some new trees as replacements. Broadmoor Board Secretary Phyllis Holimon led the effort to get bids, select trees, and direct the planting. Bemis Tree Farm was selected to supply and plant the trees.

Since the trees are now dormant, it is an excellent time to plant. Last week, Bemis came out and placed four good-sized trees in the park. They are 3-caliper inch hardwoods selected to do well in the park's soils and to provide nice color in the fall.

Thanks to Johnnie for the suggestion and especially Phyllis for your help and work!
